Roger Schroeder was ordained in 1979 as a member of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) after which he worked as a missionary for six years in Papua New Guinea.  Upon earning a Doctorate in Missiology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Schroeder began teaching at Catholic Theological Union. He has been at CTU since 1990.

Roger Schroeder is co-author, with Stephen Bevans, SVD, of Constants in Context: A Theology of Mission for Today (2004), which has an Asian edition and has been translated into Indonesian, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and Korean.  This book received the Third Place Award in the category of “Theology” by the Catholic Press Association for 2004 titles, and it was included on the list of “Fifteen Outstanding Books of 2004 for Mission Studies” by the International Bulletin of Missionary Research. Roger Schroeder has also co-authored, with Stephen Bevans,Prophetic Dialogue: Reflections on Christian Mission Today (2011), with a Portuguese translation forthcoming.  RogerSchroeder is the author of What is the Mission of the Church? A Guide for Catholics (2008) and Initiation and Religion: A Case Study from the Wosera of Papua New Guinea (1992).  He has co-edited with Stephen Bevans Word Remembered, Word Proclaimed (1997) and Mission for the 21st Century (2001).  He is currently writing a book with the working title of “A History of Christian Tradition from a Global Perspective.”

Roger Schroeder has given talks and workshops in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, South Africa, Taiwan, the United States, and Vietnam.  He is serving his third 3-year term as  the Coordinator of Anthropos Institute (international network of SVD specialists in social and religious sciences). He is a member of the following professional associations: Association of Professors of Mission (President, 1997-1998), American Society of Missiology (President 2011-2012), Midwest Fellowship of Professors of Mission (President 1992-1993, 2006-2007), International Association of Mission Studies,  and the Anthropos Institute.
